Hello, my name is Michelle, I am a qualified counsellor for adults.  People come to counselling for a variety of reasons, commonly including anxiety, depression, and struggles with self-worth or confidence. But often many people are uncertain about what they are going through or why, they feel confused, isolated, and overwhelmed.

My calm and friendly approach to counselling is exactly what many people need when facing challenges, inner turmoil and distress in their lives. A safe and supportive space where you can share your thoughts and feelings is essential in order to process what you are going through.  This can be incredibly empowering for people as they develop a greater understanding of themselves and others. Counselling creates a opportunity for you to gain deeper self awareness which leads to making effective changes in your life or finding ways of coping with the problems you are facing.

Why Counselling?

Life can be challenging and stressful at times, that's all part of being human, but for so many people life becomes far more than challenging. It becomes so overwhelming that you lose your sense of hope and direction. When life is stressful or full of anxiety and uncertainty, you often experience emotional difficulties that cause such distress that it impacts your daily life, a sense of free falling out of control can be experienced.

Feeling that you can no longer cope can be frightening, a sense of helplessness often grows, alongside increasing isolation. For some people, counselling provides the space to offload and begin to see the tree from the woods. For others, time and space are needed to process what they are experiencing.

Whatever is troubling you, you do not have to struggle alone or in silence. Counselling is where you can focus on yourself, allow yourself to explore your concerns or issues and gain a better understanding of yourself.

Counselling provides the time to focus to gain a deeper insight of yourself, to become clearer on what is affecting you and why. Enabling you to see different perspectives and possible root causes of your distress or difficulties. With awareness comes opportunity for change.

You can take steps that will help you feel less stressed, calmer and more at ease with yourself and the world around you.

Because I believe that as you progress with your counselling, your self-awareness will increase, you have the opportunity to see yourself and your world with more clarity.

You can reassess what is important to you, if your beliefs, valves, and thought processes are in line with who you really are. or want to be. This gives you a starting place to make positive changes that can improve your self-esteem and overall happiness

How can Counselling help you?

As we work together, I will support you all the way to make sense of your thoughts, feelings, and behaviours. I offer compassion and connection in our therapeutic relationship where you will feel seen, heard, understood, validated, and respected for who you are.  We can work together to achieve any goals you may have at a pace that is right for you. You will never be under any pressure to disclose anything you do not wish to do so.  Because this can be powering and validating, it can be the starting point for you to find and build your inner strengths and resources which lead to a sense of hope and possibility for the future.

Unravelling any confusion or uncertainty you are feeling helps you to reflect and process complicated or difficult emotions, anger, sadness or guilt.  I will encourage and support you as you find your way through, to understand yourself more clearly.  This may involve finding strategies to cope with stress or anxiety, or ways of managing difficult emotions, leaving you feeling more in control, with a calmer and relaxed outlook.

Because as you gain self-awareness of how your thoughts and feelings are potentially influencing you, recognising and altering limiting beliefs or behaviours becomes a possibility. You can find what is important to you and how you would like to live your life. You can learn new ways of relating and behaving. Because this can lead to a sense of empowerment, your self-confidence and self-worth can increase. Life becomes less of a uphill struggle and more fulfilling.

Talking freely and openly without fear of ever being judged or criticised releases stress and tension, enabling you to think and understand yourself more clearly, to see different perspectives and gain a deeper understanding of yourself. This enables you to work out what is best for you, to find solutions which instils hope, self-confidence, and helps to grow self-acceptance. Enabling you to take steps to become happier, more fulfilled with an overall improved sense of wellbeing.

I can support you to make sense of and process your past experiences. To see how your life and present situations may have been influenced by your past. Healing from past wounds enables you to live more fully in the present, more at peace with yourself and the world around you.  It helps to build a sense of stability, self-worth and self compassion which can change your mindset and move you into a happier and more content way of living.

Counselling does not work for everyone all the time. But has the potential to help many people with a wide scope of problems, concerns, issues, and difficulties, many of which are not listed above.

Evidence shows that the relationship between myself and you is one of the most crucial factors, so I will always commit to working to my best of my ability, to be open and compassionate to ensure you feel safe and comfortable. Meeting your needs, aims and agenda will always be our goal.

I will listen to you calmy and non-judgementally, to understand you and your experiences. Because every person is a unique individual with their personal lived experience, every counselling journey is also unique.

Taking the First Step

Reaching out for help is the first step, often the most difficult, I know how hard talking to a stranger may seem, how anxious or scared you may feel about contacting me, so I always offer a free 15 min in person, telephone, or online chat for us to talk with no obligation. We won't go into any depth, just an overview of what has brought you to counselling now. This helps me to understand how I can help you.

You can ask any questions you may have and gain a sense of how and if working together can be helpful for you. If after our chat, you feel comfortable and ready, we can arrange a first session. if you'd like to take some time to decide I can call you back at an agreed time.

It's important that you have time to reflect and decide if working with me is right for you. You are always in control and if you decide that you would like to begin counselling, we will arrange our first session. There's more info about initial contact on my blog page.
